Our sites
Wachau is world famous for the steep sites and the unique terroir. In our winery we take good care of our different sites. Every single vineyard is totally different from the other and we try to embrace those differences in each and every wine. In our wines you can taste the soil and the origin of the grapes.
Kaiserberg
The Riede Kaiserberg belongs to the municipality of Dürnstein and forms a natural border with the Weißenkirchen community. The higher terraces are composed of slate and have a southwestern orientation providing ideal conditions to produce light, fruity white wines after the grapes have achieved physiological ripeness.
Supperin
The Supperin extends from the romantic Dürnstein city walls running southward and sloping gently to the banks of the Danube. The historic vineyard (1493) is named after the Superior, then abbess of the Dürnstein cloister. Elegant fruity wines are produced by vines benefiting from soil of fine sand.
Oberhauser
Oberhausen is located between Dürnstein and Oberloiben at the foot of the Nepoleanic War memorial (1805), a region eternalized in the pages of Tolstoy’s War and Peace. Regular flooding prior to regulation deposited clay, silt and sand (alluvium) under a layer of washed Danube stone. The wines that emerge from this region are as fruitful as the soil (ground) is fertile.
Dürnsteiner
Kellerberg
The Dürnsteiner Kellerberg is possibly one of the most famous vineyards in the Wachau. Not only does it shape the landscape, it also forms the foundation for particularly intense and mineral rich wines. The sparse sandy soil is dominated by weathered gneiss (metamorphic rock), the bedrock of this vineyard.
Wonder castle
The Wunderburg is a portion of the vineyard occupying the well-known Kellerbergs to the south of the Dünrstein ruins. The character of the soil is shaped by the sandy loess (sand and silt mixture) atop mineralized bedrock, which in turn, together with the special flora of this region, shapes this unique Riesling. ‘Wonder’ (Wunder) applies not only in name; it also describes well the mystical, legendary and fantastical beauty of this special region.
Kiss the penny
Küß den Pfennig“ (Kiss the Penny), the centerpiece of the Kellerbergs, is true to its name. Old grapevines grow on steep stone terraces traversing sparse primitive rock cliffs and produce unique wines with notable finesse. Much patience, manual labor and effort must be applied to bring each noble drop to the glass.
Hollerin
‘Untouched’ is processed using only the ripest grapes from the Hollerin vineyard. Grapes are squeezed and pressed and the juice filled into oak barrels. The juice is refined to wine by the microbiological fauna (only or primarily yeast?) that are naturally found on the grapes. The wine ferments and matures in the oak barrel unmolested (undisturbed) until bottling.
Rothenberg
“Rothenberg” is currently part of a larger vineyard called Loibenberg. It was mentioned earlier than its parent vineyard when, already in 1373, it was referred to as “Rotberg” (Red Mountain). The name stems from a private vineyard of an alderman from Dürnstein or Stein. Facing south, the vineyard is located above the steep terraced vineyard Süssenberg whose walls are embedded with blocks of historic gneiss rock that form the cultural landscape.
